Clause 8.5.2 Corrective action

The last person to be fired or quit is responsible for all the errors until another person is fired or quits

Definition:
Actions taken to eliminate the cause of a detected nonconformity or other undesirable situation.

Improvement does not happen without implementing changes. This requirement is related to ensuring that actions are identified, taken and verified for implementation/effectiveness. If a problem occurs, action needs to be taken to ensure that the problem is corrected and that it does not re-occur. This involves finding the cause of the problem, recording the results of the action taken and verifying that the action was effective. The intent of this requirement is to have a disciplined approach for making sure that actions happen and are effective.

The standard requires organizations to have documented procedure to:

  • identify non conformities

  • determine the causes of non conformity

  • evaluate the need for actions

  • determining and implementing the actions (actions should be appropriate to the impact of problems)

  • recording results

  • reviewing the effectiveness of action taken (effectiveness is added in 2008)
