Identifying genuine certifications and good organizations

Many time we get emails asking us to verify the authenticity of ISO 9001 certifications cliamed by various organizations or web sites.

Please note some guidance on the same below:

1. If a company claims to be ISO 9001 (or any other standard) certified, first ask them to give you a copy of the cettificate.

2. Check the name of company, scope of certification (whether it is for the business you are doing with that organization), name of organization which issued the certificate and its address.

3. If certification bodies website address is given, check that site for list of companies certified by them or send them an email. (you check use search engines like google to check the web site of certification body.

4. If certification body does not respond in 15 days, you can send copy of certificate to International Accreditation Forum (IAF) with details.

5. In case of web sites, check the name and address of the company on the web site. If the web site does not provide name and address of the company running the web site, you can safely presume that the company is not worth doing business with or it is a fraud.

6. You you want us to help you in such matters, post your question with details in forum section, we will try to get in touch with certification bodies or IAF to resolve the issues.
